Story & Setting
The game is set on the beautiful yet brutal fantasy continent of Pywel. You follow Kliff, a member of the once-powerful Greymane faction. After significant losses, Kliff works to reunite with his comrades (such as Oongka, Yann, and Naira) and rebuild the Greymanes while dealing with political power struggles across the land. A major rival is the Black Bears and their leader Myurdin. The narrative involves themes of war, loyalty, revenge, and mysterious cosmic forces tied to “the Abyss.” The story is decent but often described as secondary to the gameplay and world exploration.
Gameplay
- Open World: A massive, seamless world with varied biomes — deserts, snowy areas, cities, ruins, and more. You can climb, glide (with wings later), explore freely, and discover secrets.
- Combat: Fast-paced, third-person action combat with combos, different weapons, and satisfying large-scale fights. It can feel chaotic and overwhelming at first but becomes very rewarding once you learn the systems.
- Progression & Activities: Rebuilding your Greymane camp/base, crafting, mining, wood cutting, side quests, treasure hunting, territory expansion, and more. It has strong RPG elements mixed with some life-sim and management features.
- Scope: It’s very content-rich and ambitious — some players call it “overstimulating” in a good way, with hundreds of hours of potential gameplay for completionists.
The Day One Edition usually gives you the full game at launch with some extra cosmetic or utility items (like special armor sets, horse tack, or shields in higher editions). On PC it’s available via Steam, Epic Games Store, etc., with solid performance on good hardware (requires SSD, recommends a strong GPU for the best visuals).
Overall, it’s praised for its visuals, combat feel, and sheer scale, though some criticize the story pacing and certain quality-of-life aspects. If you enjoy big open-world action games like The Witcher 3, Ghost of Tsushima, or even elements of Black Desert, this one is worth checking out.
